Starting Out Safely free road safety education and the safe transportation of children – Wellington Shire

Starting out Safely, funded by VicRoads, is Victoria’s early childhood road safety education program
Road trauma is the leading cause of death and disabling injury for children in Australia. By using the appropriate child car seat and using it correctly we can save children’s lives. This special session is for both early childhood educators and organisations who have an interest in the safe transportation of children.
Victorian motorists are 5 times more likely to die on country roads than on metropolitan roads.
Early Learning Association Australia would like to invite you to a free road safety education professional development session. This session is suitable for all professionals working in the early childhood sector and professionals such as maternal child health workers, child protection, organisations that transport children as part of their business and all other community members with an interest in the safe transportation of children.
The 2 hour interactive session, will be delivered by two presenters. Zora Marko will discuss your legal obligations and best practice policies when transporting children, provide information on the latest research, statistics and policies on the safe transportation of children and provide a practical demonstration and advice on the correct use and selection of child car seats.
Louise Dorrat will give both early childhood educators, parents and carers practical strategies to support young children’s learning about road safety, centered on the latest evidence-based research. This session will also assist educators to identify how road safety education links to the EYLF, the VEYLDF and the NQS.
Resources will be provided to all participants.
