About the Centre/Service We are a community based centre in Camberwell (3124) that provides sessional childcare 3 days a week. Our philosophy and goals are to create an atmosphere where children are encouraged to explore, discover, create and develop their own highly individual personalities. Our early childhood professionals provide an educational play based program that focuses on the children’s developmental needs, individually and in the group setting. The educators use the Victorian Early Years Learning Framework as supporting documents to plan and support ongoing reflection and evaluation. The experiences offered are adult supported and child initiated to assist the children to achieve the following broad goals. • Foster positive self-concept • Develop social skills and self-discipline • Encourage children to think, reason, question and experiment • Encourage language development • Enhance physical development and skills, including developing independence in self-help skills , e.g. eating and toileting, picking up personal belongings, i.e lunch boxes • Encourage and demonstrate sound health, safety and nutritional practices • Encourage creative expression and appreciation for the arts • Respect cultural diversity and all family structures

DAYS/WORK HOURS: Wednesday /Friday
JOB CLASSIFICATION: child Care Educator certificate 111 or a Diploma

Are you looking for a work /life balance role... then this role is for you! We are registered for 37 children over 2 multi aged programs. Both programs are well supported by 3-4 long term educators who are dedicated and experienced in providing play based programs. We close for 4 weeks over the Dec/Jan period and operate a holiday program during each term break (one day per week).     PRIME PURPOSE OF POSITION:   To provide best practice childcare at Bowen Street.   QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE  
Required Desired
·         Solid experience as carer of children ·         Certificate level in childcare
· ·         Experience as carer of children
·         Level 1 first aid and CPR updates ·         Knowledge of current childcare best  practice and National Framework principles
· ·         Current Working with Children check ·         Completed current mandatory Reporting Module ·         Demonstrated knowledge of the policy and procedures at Bowen Street Community Centre that reflect the National and Victorian Framework
 

SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

 
·         Knowledge of and the ability to work in accordance with the Centre’s policies and OH &S regulations ·         Physical ability and stamina to perform a variety of tasks to support the health and wellbeing of children of the Centre
·         Good communication and interpersonal skills ·         Ability to plan ahead with time management flexibility with the sessional activities and routines when demanded
·         Willingness to discuss issues openly in a respectful and constructive manner relative to any staffing or child /parent related concerns ·         Ability to communicate effectively with others in the working environment
Qualifications Cert III or Diploma qualifications required
