About the Centre/Service
Waverley Meadows Preschool is situated in Wheelers Hill in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs in Victoria on the land of the Boon wurrung People of the Kulin Nations. Our centre offers exceptional funded three and four year old Kindergarten programs as well as a Mixed Age Group, delivered under a rating of Exceeding the National Quality Standard in all seven quality areas. Our educators are committed to child-centred pedagogy that is informed by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. We create an environment that supports a sense of wonder, investigation, thinking and socialisation, that is connected with nature and culture. Our programs for children are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and its guiding principles, practices and outcomes. Educators develop and design programs through input from children, families and professional knowledge which gives children opportunities to practise and consolidate their learning. We offer an established Nature Kindergarten and Pet Therapy Program and pride ourselves on our relationships within the community such as with the Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA) puppy caring program and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation.

Description
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and motivated Diploma qualified Early Childhood Educator to join an established team of educators at Waverley Meadows Preschool as a co-educator in the Mixed Age group and as an additional educator in the Nature Kindergarten program. This is a part time role, commencing 28th January 2025. The role offers employment for 10.75 hours per week (5 hours contact in the Mixed Age Group on Monday and Thursday, non-contact time for assisting with implementing the program, setting up and packing up the learning environment and documentation and 3 hours contact on a Tuesday as an additional educator in the Nature Kinder program). The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), the Early Years Learning Framework (V2.0) and the Planning Cycle and will use this to assist with the development and documentation of a quality, developmentally appropriate program for the children. This program is to be developed in consultation with the Committee of Management, the parents of children attending and the early childhood teacher in charge of the program and be responsive to the needs of the community. We are seeking a person who strives to work cooperatively as a member of a broader team, in a whole centre approach, to provide a developmentally appropriate program and continuity of education and care for children in the two years prior to school as well as who strives for personal and professional growth and ongoing quality improvement. The successful candidate will have a passion for the Reggio Emilia approach to education, nature pedagogy, be confident to engage within our current educational team and be able to bring their own ideas and experiences to the role. All employees are required to have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and adhere to the Waverley Meadows Preschool Code of Conduct.
Qualifications
Applicants must have the following qualifications and registrations prior to commencement:
- Hold an approved Diploma of Children’s Services.
- Be able to fill the position of Nominated Supervisor or person in a leadership position or day-to-day charge if required by the Approved Provider in accordance with the Regulations.
- Hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Hold a current Child Protection/Mandatory Reporting certificate.
- Hold and maintain an approved:
- first aid qualification
- CPR qualification
- emergency asthma management qualification
- management of anaphylaxis qualification
- in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Regulations and service policies

Additional Requirements
- An understanding and knowledge of early childhood development relevant to the level of qualification and position
- Sound knowledge of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), the Early Years Learning Framework (V2.0) and the Planning Cycle
- Understanding of the indications of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, within an Australian context
- Ability to assist in the provision of a developmentally appropriate program for the children; in partnership with the early childhood teacher and parents
- Assist in the development of Planning Cycle documents including observations, assessment of children’s learning, learning stories and individual goals for children
- Experience using technology such as iPads, Google Drive/Docs, PicCollage
- An ability to plan, reflect, work and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
