About the Centre/Service
Barry Beckett Children’s Centre (BBCC) is a community not-for-profit early childhood education and care service located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people, near Merri Creek in Coburg.
The Centre is named after Councillor Barry Beckett, who championed rights for refugees and local families, creating an important social service in the Coburg area. We wish to acknowledge and reflect the significance of these aspects of our history and existence and instil a shared understanding in the children who play here and the educators who work here.
We are an inclusive service, with a deep commitment to social justice, inclusion, sustainability, and reconciliation. We strive for excellence in teaching and care, supporting ongoing learning and continuous improvement for our staff.
- we recognise the importance of all our employees’ health and well-being, providing a dedicated Employee Assistance Program.
- We are a 93 place centre with five learning spaces, and six programs – four of those are kinder programs, with a total of five teaching staff.
- We are proud of our diverse, professional team who encourage strong, open relationships with children and families.
- We are passionate about research and evidence-based practise and creating learning environments and using teaching strategies that are responsive to all children's strengths, skills and interests.
- We are committed learning, with children about our First Nations past and present.
