About the Centre/Service Heathmont East Preschool has developed a ‘play based’ program with many open-ended activities that inspire children to explore, to wonder, to use their different senses, to engage in learning. We strive to implement best practice, including a balance of ‘intentional teaching’ and child led enquiry-based learning, following children’s interests. We work to provide flexibility within a routine that provides security and develops the child’s cognitive, social, physical and emotional skills and capabilities in a safe and stimulating environment. We believe in nurturing a sense of belonging and inclusion for all children and families and assist children to develop confident self-identities. We recognise the importance of families as the child’s first educator. We accept professional learning opportunities to deepen our understandings of equity, inclusion and diversity. We respect each child’s culture, including those of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We acknowledge Australia’s true history and try to teach all children about history and culture in a respectful way, sharing our learning through resources and connection with the land on which we walk together. Heathmont East Preschool promotes a fully inclusive program which allows all children to learn at their own individual pace and learning style.
