About the Centre/Service Briar Hill Preschool (BHPS) is an early years educational service with a fully government funded four-year-old and partially funded three-year-old program. The service is run by a committee of management (CoM) comprised primarily of parents of children attending the service. The committee are a legal entity who function as both the approved provider of the educational service and the employer of the staff working at the service.
Work Days of the Role Variable
Hours of Work of the Role Estimated between 5-8 hours per week
Method of EmploymentThe Business Manager will be employed on a contractual basis to reduce the financial burden of employing a staff member and to increase the accountability of the role.
Hours of EmploymentThe Business Manager will be employed on a variable hours contract with a base level of eight hours per week for the 40 weeks of kinder operations. Any hours above those contracted would be approved by the committee for project work and surge hours (i.e. processing of enrolments in September).
Management StructureThe Business Manager reports to the Committee of Management (via the President) and works with the Centre Director to ensure the efficient operation of the service. The Centre Director reports to the Business Manager with respect to finance, operations and human resources. The Business Manager does not have line control over the educational staff who would continue to report to the Centre Director. The Centre Director reports to the Committee of Management (via the President) regarding educational matters. The Business Manager has line control and supervision over all contractors employed at the service.
Legal Authority and LiabilityThe Business Manager derives legal authority from a formal delegation in writing from the Committee of Management enabling decision making and authorising expenditure at the appropriate level. Excepting malicious conduct by the Business Manager the Committee of Management retain all the legal liability and responsibility as the approved provider and committee of the incorporated association. The Committee of Management can delegate it’s authority but not it’s legal responsibility – hence the importance of a strong oversight focus in the responsibilities matrix.
Qualifications Business administration qualifications preferred.

Salary Other Remuneration will be at a fixed rate of $40 per hour as set in the contract
