About the Centre/Service We are a not for profit early childhood education and care service in the heart of Northcote. We are currently recruiting for a passionate, enthusiastic and friendly Centre cook. This position is part time, start time and finish time can be negotiated. The successful candidate will also receive above Professional Childcare Standard wage rate, bonus RDO and additional sick leave. We are registered for 98 children, however we purposefully keep our utilisation to 85 children per day. We operate six educational programs for children aged from 6 months to 5 years, including integrated funded kinder program for 3 and 4 yr olds.

Description As an essential service, we have remained open during lockdowns and our educators and staff continued to work. So, if you are a cook/chef in hospitality... call us to discuss this opportunity further. An excellent opportunity exists at our reputable early childhood education and care service for an experienced and passionate cook. We are seeking a dedicated team member who genuinely has a passion and commitment for providing a healthy and nutritious menu for 85 children per day, age from 6 months to 5 years.  You will have access to a well equipped kitchen with a commercial stove and commercial dishwasher. You will be required to plan, purchase and prepare menus (lunch and snacks) which are nutritionally balanced, suited to dietary requirements and reflects diversity of cultures. You will periodically and seasonally review the rotating menu plans with the Centre Director. You are responsible for all aspects of running the kitchen including maintaining all documentation relating to the Food Safety Plan and a clean and hygienic kitchen. You will have experience cooking meals for large numbers.
Qualifications Certificate in food handling, applicants with a 'Supervisor Certificate' will be highly regarded. A thorough understanding of allergies and food preferences* Completed professional development on children's health and nutrition and menu planning* Experience in and competent in menu planning and creating meals to cater for dietary requirements* * We are prepared to support the right candidate with external professioanl training in these areas.
Requirements WWCC
Additional Requirements Excellent time management skills, highly organised to get meals out on time and to work under pressure. The ability and willingness to learn, listen and continullay improve. You can work mainly on your own but also have excellent verbal and communication skills. Complete weekly shopping lists, ordering from suppliers and do some shopping, if needed. Maintaining a high level of health and safety standards in all aspects of running the kitchen.
