About the Centre/Service Surrey Hills Preschool Centre is nestled amongst South Surrey Park with trees surrounding and a creek meandering close by. Our service is run by a volunteer Committee of Management and highly skilled long standing, dedicated staff. As a team we encourage collaboration, open communication, respectful relationships and strongly value having familiar educators for our children and families enrolled. We currently have three groups of three-year old and two groups of four-year old sessional kinder programs. We pride ourselves on a program that is Play-based embedded with opportunities for intentional and spontaneous learnings.
Work Days of the Role Flexible between Monday - Friday
Hours of Work of the Role Shifts vary between 5 - 7 hours
Description Surrey Hills Preschool is seeking to expand our Emergency Relief list for our Preschool. We are looking for Kinder Teachers qualified in a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education  to join our team as a Casual Kinder Teacher for our three and four year old sessional kinder programs as needed. We currently run two classrooms daily and at any one time need 2 qualified teachers in each room to deliver our government funded Kinder program.

The possible shifts you would cover are as follows:

Monday
  • 8am - 3pm - 4 year old Kinder
Tuesday
  • 8am - 3pm - 4 year old Kinder
Wednesday
  • 8am - 3pm - 4 year old Kinder
  • 8am - 1:30pm - 3 year old Kinder
Thursday
  • 8am - 3pm - 4 year old Kinder
  • 8am - 1:30pm - 3 year old Kinder
Friday
  • 8am - 2pm - 4 year old Kinder
  • 8am - 1:30pm - 3 year old Kinder

How Important this role is to Surrey Hills Preschool:

Surrey Hills Preschool and our wider local Kinder community strongly value having a core group of amazing educational relievers that are familiar to our students and their families as well as familiar with the Preschool's teaching philosophy, ethos and understanding of our policies and procedures.  Our Committee of Management want to continue to support our permanent staff and management to take leave for Professional Development opportunities and leave them feeling confident the kinder program will continue to run smoothly in their absence. We also have the necessity to be able to call upon Teachers to step in for our permanent staff taking Annual Leave and Personal Leave.

What Does the Role Involve?

As a member of our Emergency Relief list you will be called upon with as little as 1 hours notice to step in as Teacher for either our 3 year old groups or 4 year old groups. While we strive to give our Relievers as much notice as possible this isn't always possible and we need emergency staff that are flexible to step in last minute. You can nominate your availability, best to be honest with your availability and then our Management can plan accordingly.

Key Selection Criteria:

The successful candidate will have or able to demonstrate the following

  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (as per the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010, Education, and Care Services National Regulations 2011, and the DEECD Victorian Kindergarten, Policy, Procedures and Funding Criteria)
  • Current Victorian Teachers Registration
  • An awareness of the regulations act
  • A commitment to child safe standards, child safety and high levels of supervision
  • First Aid Qualifications
  • An ability to manage the timing of the session to meet the needs of the children, the sharing of the outdoor area and the flow of the daily schedule.
  • Experience working within an Early Childhood Educational environment or with children aged between 3 - 5 years
  • Great interpersonal skills and a commitment to positive communication & collaboration both with families, colleagues and children
  • Warm and respectful communication with the children
  • Ability to delivery the program for the children as planned by the permanent Kinder Teacher
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Early Learning Years Framework
  • Flexibility to work where required within the service
  • Understand the importance and how to be responsive to children’s participation in the program developing a sense of trust with you as their educator
  • Able to act on both intentional teaching and spontaneous teachable moments for the children’s learning and development, both in the general program and routines
  • Ability to hit the ground running and familiarise yourself with Kinder teachers plan for the day/week before the session begins (program plan available from Teacher)
  • Work as a team with the Co educator to support the children with transitions throughout the sessions e.g. setting up for meal times, helping children with getting ready for outdoor play, tidying and resetting activities, n group time, assist children with their well being including toileting/sun smart/packing back packs and being responsive to their needs.
  • Confidently run group times including music and movement
  • Great documentation of the session to pass onto the regular Kinder Teacher
An interest in Bush Kinder, Music, Sustainability, Indigenous Culture, Natural play and/or Art highly regarded

Qualifications

  • Current Victorian Teachers Registration

  • Current, approved First Aid qualification, inc. Management of Anaphylaxis and asthma, annual CPR and administration of EpiPen Training

  • Previous experience working as an Early Childhood Educator
