03 JulClarification re wages update July 2020 (important payroll information – please read)
Providers, please note the following clarification regarding the July 2020 wage increase update published by ELAA in our member update of 2 July 2020.
On 19 June the Fair Work Commission (FWC) handed down its 2019-20 Annual Wage Review decision. This is where FWC reviews all Awards to determine whether there will be any increases.
The FWC decision was to increase all Award rates of pay by 1.75%.
Who does this affect?
This decision affects all employees engaged under the following Awards:
- Children’s Services Award 2010
- Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2010
- Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2010
- Victorian Early Childhood Teachers and Educators Agreement 2016 (VECTEA) – Activity Group Leaders (AGLs), Diploma Qualified Educators and Certificate III Educators
New rates are payable from the start of the first full pay period that starts on or after 1 July 2020 .
The FWC decision also applies to Educators and AGLs under VECTEA
The rates of pay for Educators and AGLs under VECTEA need to be adjusted due to the increase in the Children Services Award 2010. This is because rates of pay for employees employed under Agreements can never be lower than the rates of pay in the applicable industry Award, in this case the Children Services Award 2010.
What about teachers employed under VECTEA?
There is no change for teachers employed under VECTEA as their current rates of pay are well above the applicable industry Award.
What about teachers not employed under VECTEA?
Early Childhood Teachers who are not employed under VECTEA or any other Agreement will be employed under the Educational Services (Teachers) Award 2010. These rates of pay have been increased by 1.75%, in line with the FWC decision.
When will the VECTEA rates increase?
Discussions between ELAA, AEU and government are continuing and members will be informed as soon as these conclude, including when the next VECTEA will be implemented.
