ELAA has advocated about the new enrolment information which the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) had advised services late last month was a requirement for collection in 2022. The additional data to be collected included information about interpreters for families whose country of birth is not Australia as well as their year of arrival in Australia. The data requirements are an outcome of Parliamentary Inquiry into early childhood engagement in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
It is estimated that up to 90% of services had already completed their enrolment activities at the time the changes were announced and DET has agreed to make this data optional for 2022 and compulsory for 2023. ELAA has advised DET that changes of this nature need a longer lead time to allow services time to make the necessary requirements to their information collection systems.
Formal advice to services is expected from DET shortly.
