01 FebNew videos from DESE to help childcare providers manage crisis situations

Posted on 01 Feb 2021

2020 brought bushfires, floods, cyclones, drought, storms and, of course, a global pandemic. These events impacted almost everyone in the community, including early childhood education and care providers. Hopefully 2021 will be less eventful but managing crisis events has now become an essential part of every child care service’s management plan. To help with this, the Department of Education, Skills, and Employment has produced a three-part series of short “video explainers” to help you understand your obligations and the support available to you should crisis eventuate.

This free-to-access series includes:

Preparing for emergency

  • the definition of a “local emergency” under Family Assistance Law
  • a check list for your emergency management plan
  • other helpful information.

Help during emergency

  • how to ensure the continuity of your Child Care Subsidy
  • how additional absences may apply
  • how to handle disruption to families and child care during an emergency.

Recovering after an emergency

  • Australian Government assistance to help you recover, including Special Circumstances funding
  • additional subsidy support
  • mental health resources.
