30 JulOnline Transition Learning and Development Statement (Online TLDS) assistance

Posted on 30 Jul 2019

The Department of Education and Training’s Online Transition Learning and Development Statement (Online TLDS) is now open and there are many resources available to assist early years providers to understand and provide the TLDS.

It is a requirement of all funded kindergartens to provide a TLDS for each child as they transition to primary school.

This year, the Department of Education and Training has automatically allocated additional funds for services to release teachers to write TLDS. For further details, see: Transition Learning and Development Statement

A new username and password will be generated for funded kindergarten services and long day care providers and sent to your service email listed in NQAITS. This will be sent in an email from the organisation ‘LinkIt’.

Prior to using the Online TLDS, it is important to consider your ongoing communication and relationships with children and families. As part of your conversations, DET recommends that you ensure that you provide families with the introduction to transition information sheet. The information sheets are available in many different languages and can be found on the Department’s website: Transition resources for families

There are many supports available to help you use the Online TLDS, including:

  • user guides, support videos and tip sheets
  • helpdesk function, available Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm
  • optional free face-to-face training designed for kindergarten staff looking for support in completing an online website form.

For further information around the Online TLDS and how to access these supports, please visit the Department’s webpage: Completing an online transition statement

Bastow Continuity of Early Learning courses for 2020

Background:

The Bastow Institute Continuity of Early Learning course final intake for 2019 commenced 23 July. Given the success of this free course, more intakes will be offered in 2020, so early childhood and school networks are encouraged by DET to begin considering their applications. The Continuity of Early Learning course aims to strengthen the partnerships between schools and early childhood services to help children successfully transition to school. The course places particular emphasis on supporting children and families experiencing vulnerability and/or disadvantage. Applications should be submitted as a team, which can include schools, outside school hours care, early childhood services and support services, particularly those supporting transitions across settings. Further communications will be provided by DET when 2020 intake dates are confirmed.

Introducing a series of self-directed  learning modules to support transition to school networks on the topic of reflection and evaluation

Background:

Designed for early childhood and school networks to further develop their understanding of evidence-based practice related to transition to school.

Four self- directed learning modules have been developed by DET to strengthen existing transition processes, highlight the need to plan effective transitions for children and ensure evaluation is a key aspect of all transition networks. Interested networks can obtain a copy of the modules by emailing psts@edumail.vic.gov.au
