23 OctVCOSS launches Climate of Fairness report

Posted on 23 Oct 2019

The Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) has launched a major report about climate change called A Climate of Fairness.

This report to the Victorian Government underlines VCOSS’ position that the response to climate change must be a fair one i.e. that it can’t be allowed to hurt people who are already poor, sick or socially isolated. That includes people on fixed or low incomes, social housing tenants, people with a disability or health challenge, Aboriginal people and those living in farming, coastal or rural communities.

The key message from VCOSS is:  “Our response to climate change must be urgent and comprehensive. But it must also be fair and equitable—and ensure no one is left behind.”

The Report,  A Climate of Fairness, lays out this position in more detail and proposes workable policy measures to ensure Victoria not only responds to climate change but that the action taken is both fair and equitable.
