20 DecTeacher Capability Assessment

Posted on 20 Dec 2022

Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs) are an amazing asset to our kindergartens as they help children to thrive through play-based learning and development. As an employer you have obligations to ensure teachers have pathways for continued growth and career development.

The Victorian Early Childhood Teachers and Educators Agreement (VECTEA) recognises eligible teachers and their ability to progress from Level 2.5 to Level 3.1 in its career structure. These experienced and eligible teachers will now be able to validate their skills via the Capability Assessment and potentially access the next tier in their careers.

Teacher progression from level 2.5 to level 3.1 commenced from 1 February 2022. For those ECTs that meet the phase 1 eligibility criteria, it would be expected that the Capability Assessment has been completed.  Employers are to arrange the Capability Assessment for ECTs that meet the phase 2 eligibility at their incremental anniversary date or as soon as practically possible.
