DET Capability Assessment Guide – For Approved Providers and Teachers

What is the Capability Assessment Guide?

This resource was authored by Catharine Hydon (Director at Hydon Consulting) and produced by the Department of Education and Training (DET) in consultation with ELAA, the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and the Australian Education Union (AEU).

What is in the Capability Assessment Guide?

The Capability Assessment Guide (Guide) provides a resource and framework to support teachers and Approved Providers to undertake the Capability Assessment in the Victorian Early Childhood Teachers and Educators Agreement 2020 (VECTEA) and the Early Education Employees Agreement 2020 (EEEA).

While these early childhood agreements do not prescribe a specific process for completing the Capability Assessment, this Guide proposes a straightforward five-step procedure that ensures both teachers and Approved Providers can have confidence in the process,

Note: This Guide is also applicable for VECTEA Mirror Agreement signatories, the Victorian Early Childhood Agreement 2021 (VECA) and the Victorian Early Education Agreement 2021 (VEEA).

What supporting tools are available?

The Guide provides 13 supporting ‘tools’, accompanying documents and templates to assist Approved Providers. ELAA recommends that Approved Providers download both the Guide and the tool attachments.
