08 SepCEOs advocating for change in Canberra

Posted on 08 Sep 2022

This week, ELAA CEO David Worland along with Community Child Care  Association (CCC) CEO Julie Price and Community Early Learning Australia (CELA) CEO Michele Carnegie, ventured to Canberra to meet with members of parliament and their staff about issues facing the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector. These meetings present an opportunity to use the Six Point Plan submission for Early Learning and Care – developed by ELAA, CCC and CELA earlier this year – as a discussion tool for the CEOs to advocate for changes to strengthen our sector. The Six Point Plan can be viewed here . Strategies to reduce the workforce shortage have been a key topic of discussion in each meeting and continue to be a focus of ELAA’s advocacy.

So far, the CEOs have met with:

  • Minister for Early Childhood Education, Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, and her staff
  • Senator Barbara Pocock
  • Senator Mehreen Faruqi
  • Senator Matt O’Sullivan
  • representatives of other ECEC advocacy bodies such as the CEO of Early Childhood Australia – Sam Page
