16 FebMinister announcement at the Educational Leaders Conference

Posted on 16 Feb 2023

The Department of Education hosted the Best Start, Best Life 2023 Educational Leaders Conference on February 15 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Over 1,000 educational leaders across Victoria attended – with a further 1,000 online attendees.

The program featured Department of Education (DE) representatives, the Minister for Early Childhood Education and Pre-Prep Ingrid Stitt, Wurundjeri Elders Bill Nicholson and Tony Garvey, internationally renowned academics, and educational leaders.

ELAA is excited to share that Minister Ingrid Stitt announced the delivery of mentoring and coaching for experienced teachers and educators. This will be a positive career development opportunity for teachers and educators that have worked in the sector for a while and will have long-term positive impacts for new members of the workforce.

After Professor Iram Siraj and Professor Jane Bertrand shared evidence to support quality of teaching and learning and pedagogical leadership, the conference hosted a panel discussion about evidence and reflective practice. Educational Leader, Kristie Dowell represented our member Gowrie at this panel. Kristie shared practical ways that the team at Gowrie Carlton Learning Precinct use evidence and reflective practice to improve their practice and approach to early learning.

It was wonderful to see lots of ELAA members at the conference and great to see the Department offering the sector an opportunity to come together to network and learn before the Pre-Prep reforms begin to roll out.
