18 JulEmbracing the benefits of the EYALT pilot

Posted on 18 Jul 2023

In Term 1 2023, the first round of Victorian funded kindergartens were able to access the piloted Early Years Assessment and Learning Tool (EYALT). Services had to apply for access to this pilot through an expression of interest process, with future expressions of interest rounds opening up in late 2023 and in 2024.

How the tool works

The Tool contains eight modules which gather information on children’s learning and development aligned to the five learning and development outcomes in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and the Victorian Curriculum. For each module, teachers and co-educators respond to a series of questions which draw on the existing knowledge of the child. When completed, the Tool gives educators a Learning Report which provides them with a picture of a child’s strengths and interests in that module.

ELAA has found that some members have embedded the EYALT into their kindergarten programs, finding this tool to be a successful way to track their observations. Part of the EYALT pilot included the implementation support package, that provided funding and support for services to embed this tool into their service.

ELAA encourages members that were granted approval to participate in the pilot to utilise the EYALT to improve their teaching teams observations and intention in their teaching practice.
