Posted on 03 Oct 2023

ELAA is excited to announce that after extensive consultation across the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector, 13 topics have been selected for development into micro-credentials as part of the Skilling and Adaptable Early Childhood Education and Care Workforce (SAEW) Project. These 13 micro-credentials are:

  • Embedding the child safe standards
  • Working in a team
  • Educator wellbeing
  • Relationships with families
  • Supporting children with additional needs
  • Educator role within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives
  • Trauma informed practice
  • Professional identity, ethics and teaching philosophy
  • Intentionality in learning environments
  • Foundational practice:
    • The arts in practice
    • Routines and rhythms
    • Using digital technologies with children
    • Running a group time.

Work is well underway, with the first three micro-credentials undergoing user testing by early childhood educators in October 2023. Feedback received from the user testing group will help inform the development of ten additional micro-credentials being produced in the coming months and help create a better e-learning experience for early childhood educators across Victoria. The micro-credentials form a key function of the SAEW Project and will give early childhood educators newly employed in the sector the training and skills needed to match the ongoing challenges of workforce capacity and retention.
