21 FebNQF Snapshot showcases Victoria’s high quality

Posted on 21 Feb 2024

Each quarter, the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) releases a snapshot of how the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector is performing alongside the National Quality Framework (NQF). This snapshot outlines the state of the sector, percentages of services meeting or exceeding the NQF, a breakdown of each state and territory, and much more.

This quarter’s snapshot revealed that there has been positive progress made across Australia, relating to the quality of our early childhood delivery. For example, 4,223 services previously rated as ‘Working Towards’ improved their rating to Meeting the National Quality Standards (NQS).

ELAA was pleased to see that Victoria has once again excelled in the overall quality rating category. With over 97% of Preschools/Kindergartens either meeting or exceeding the NQS. Victoria also had the lowest percentage of waivers of any jurisdiction and waiver category, with only 3.1% of Australia’s waivers coming from our state.

Although there are many barriers that our sector must overcome, it is important to stop and reflect on the positives. Australia, and more specifically Victoria, is a leader in the ECEC space and truly values the importance of quality and safety for our children. The work you are doing plays a significant role in Australian society and benefits those that need it the most. We want to celebrate our members achievements in delivering the high quality and child focused programs they deliver. This is reflected in the ACECQA snapshot data and is noticeable every time we visit your services.
