About the Centre/Service Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten is in a separate custom-designed building adjoining Oakleigh Primary School. We are part of the school community with most kindergarten children going on to attend the school. We provide sessional three and four year old kindergarten programs. We offer play based, outdoor rich, emergent learning. By using the children’s interests, we can build their knowledge and skill base, teach them to work with others, and share in the thrill of exploring ideas. We collaborate with children using their ideas and curiosity as the starting point for our planning. Some interests may last a few days, a week, or over many weeks. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced, and work as a team to provide learning based on children’s needs and interests. We work in partnership with families and the broader school community and believe a strong partnership between the home, kindergarten and local community fosters and enriches learning. We value input from families and children into the program and in the assessment of learning. We see the children, their family, and staff as a community of learners working together. Our modern facilities and outdoor garden space provide for an ever-changing learning environment. Most importantly we aim to stimulate each child’s creativity and imagination, to build on their natural curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning. We currently have a rating of Exceeding the National Quality Framework. We work to maintain a high standard of professional understanding, education and practice relating to child safety standards and children’s protection from harm. We work to promote the inclusion of all children and families. Child Safety Statement of Intent Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten and Out of School Hours Care has a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the safety of all children who attend the service. We believe all children have a right to feel safe and secure and to have a positive sense of self including feeling empowered to share their concerns, thoughts and feelings knowing that they will be heard and supported. We value the diversity of our service. We are committed to promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, the safety of children who identify with the LGBTIQ community, and the safety of children from all cultures, religions and language groups, recognising at the moment some children may be particularly vulnerable due to world conflict. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for children with a disability. The safety and protection from harm of each child is our priority. In the event of any concerns about the safety of a child, including children who attend this service, we are legally and ethically obliged to report it to the appropriate authorities. We are committed to continual learning including continually updating our policies to ensure that we are providing best practices. We aspire to include parents and guardians to foster a collaborative approach to child safety, and an environment where families feel respected and listened to. We view that it is the whole community’s responsibility to ensure children are safe. We aim to provide support to families in their role in caring for and providing a safe environment for their children. By working together, we can create a nurturing and safe environment where every child can thrive.
