About the Centre/Service Acacia Fitzroy Creche is a not-for-profit community based centre located in Fitzroy. We are an integrated Long Day Care and Kindergarten service. We pride ourselves on our commitment to the inclusion of all children and to enhance all children's wellbeing so they can become confident and independent learners. Our innovative educational program is delivered as an indoor/outdoor program which focusses on children learning through play and inquiry-based learning. Our team of educators are passionate and very supportive of each other including new team members.
Work Days of the Role Monday - Friday
Hours of Work of the Role 8:00am - 2:00pm
Description We are excited to offer an opportunity to a highly motivated professional who loves cooking, planning meals and helping support the healthy development of children through well balanced and thought-out nutrition. You will have high standards for hygiene and maintain a clean and safe kitchen, in line local Council requirements and relevant food handling standards. You will be reliable, positive and well organised. You will enjoy working with families and children. Critical to this role is experience in planning budgets and experience in tailoring menus and implementing practises to manage allergies and intolerances.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a cook within an Early Childhood Service/Hospitality, preparing foods suitable for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old or minimum 2 years’ experience with food handling/service
  • Proven ability in all areas of cookery including preparing rotating menu planning, meeting
  • Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or equivalent
  • Food Handling Safety Certificate;
  • Current Working with Children Card or ability to obtain
  • Experience working in a Childcare kitchen is an advantage.

Additional Requirements A typical day for the Acacia Fitzroy Creche will look like; In every interaction with the Centre Director, Nominated Supervisor, team members and families, ensuring a collaborative and partnership based approach is taken with respect to menu planning, meal preparation and prompt resolution of issues. • Performing all duties to a high standard and demonstrating Acacia’s values of Dedication, Equality, Sustainability, Integrity, Respect and Excellence in the workplace at all times. • Openly communicate with the Nominated Supervisor and team members, and report any challenges as soon as practicable. • Display service menus within the centre. • Awareness of allergy requirements within the service and ensure that any dietary requirements of the children are respected and followed. • Order and arrange delivery of ingredients and products weekly as per the menu and ensure that food is fresh and temperature records are kept. • Implement and adhere to the food safety plans of the service • Prepare nutritional food according to dietary requirements. • Maintain up to date records in accordance with food safety plans • Assist team members to serve and pack away after meals as required • Clean kitchen daily and follow a cleaning routine for all appliances/areas of the kitchen. • Engaging with the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
