About the Centre/Service The foundation of strong and purposeful relationships is central to everything that we do. Box Hill North offers a unique opportunity for families to being their learning journey from 3 year-old kindergarten; transitioning seamlessly into the primary setting and providing continuity of established relationships, learning and personal connections. The kindergarten is ideally located central to the primary school and we pride ourselves on providing a genuine nine-year learning experience for our children with strong connections to community. We currently operate two 3-year-old program and two 4-year-old programs. Extended care is available, together with access to the primary school’s out of hours care program. Our staff are experienced and work in partnership to provide best opportunities and developmental experiences for our children.

Position Summary The Director of the Kindergarten plays a pivotal role in the successful transition of children into the program and then into the primary school. The Director is. responsible for leading, managing, organising and promoting excellence in the implementation of early childhood programs.  The position of Director has the complexity of multiple responsibilities and a structure that requires working closely with children, parents, teachers, leadership team and the community. The Director is a member of the School Improvement Team, designed to implement our strategic intent as part of the nine-year learning experience for our children. We are looking for a person to step into the kindergarten director role and teach one of our 4-year-old kindergarten groups for 2024. This position is a maternity leave position. Please note, that there is room to discuss the role as a teaching role independently. Major Roles and Responsibilities Curriculum
  • Create, lead and implement high quality programs to support the developmental needs and learning interests of all children
  • Ensure the curriculum incorporates the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the National Quality Framework (NFQ), the National Quality Standards (NQS), and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Developmental Framework (VEYLDF)
Partnerships
  • Build positive relationships with parents to actively involve them in their child’s learning experience
  • Provide positive transition into the kindergarten
  • Provide positive transition into the primary school
  • Liaise with the primary school staff for continuity of learning
  • Make strong connections with the local community
  • Actively network with local kindergartens and early childhood centres
Staff Leadership
  • Provide staff with educational leadership to maintain exemplary practice
  • Lead staff induction inclusive of the Box Hill North philosophy and curriculum
  • Manage regular staff appraisals and peer review sessions
  • Set annual key performance indicators with the school improvement team and principal
  • Facilitate the development of an effective team
  • Resource professional learning and development for staff
  • Act as the educational leader as required under the Education and Care Services National Regulations
Reporting
  • Ensure documentation related to the curriculum is complete, including individual developmental observations, program plans and profiles as a basis for further planning and assessment
  • Coordinate the communication of each child’s development to parents and staff
  • Ensure all funded program enrolments are submitted and kept up to date
  • Submit annual Department of Education and Training (DET) funded kindergarten program census through Kindergarten Information Management System (KIMS)
  • Develop an annual Quality Improvement Plan for the kindergarten in consultation with the kindergarten team and present to the school council
  • Place holder of the School Council
Child Safety At Box Hill North Kindergarten and Primary School, everyone is responsible for the safety and protection of all children.  All employees at Box Hill North are required to:
  • Have a current Working with Children Check or VIT registration
  • Complete all mandatory reporting training and education about child safety
  • Have a thorough understanding of the updated Child Safe Standards
  • Adhere to the School’s Child Protection Policies, Staff Code of Conduct, and other policies and procedures.
 

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • An appropriate Early Childhood qualification recognised under the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
  • Demonstrated experience as Educational Leader at an Early Childhood service
  • Demonstrated understanding of the EYF, the VEYLDF, the NQF and NQS
  • Demonstrated experience in staff and budgetary management
  • High level interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults, maintaining confidentiality
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity and high level of self-motivation
  • Problem solving skills
Desirable Criteria
  • Strategic focus to curriculum review and development
  • Working knowledge of data management systems
  • Working knowledge of a primary school environment
  • Capacity to inspire children through a curious mindset
  Key Selection Criteria (Response required by all applicants)
  1. Demonstrated capacity to lead a child centred play-based program
  2. Demonstrated ability to build positive and purposeful relationships with key stakeholders
  3. Demonstrated capacity to manage budget and administrative duties
  4. Description of an initiative that you have successfully implemented for the benefit of children
Qualifications Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor Early Childhood or equivalent
  • In accordance with the Working with Children Act 2005, the successful applicant will provide the employer with a current Working with Children (WWC) assessment notice
  • The successful applicant must maintain a current First Aid minimum level 2 qualification including management of anaphylaxis and asthma and annual CPR in accordance with the Educational and Care Services National Regulations and service policies
  • The successful applicant must hold a current registration as a teacher under the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and the continuation of employment is subject to successful ongoing renewal of this registration as prescribed by VIT
