About the Centre/Service Poets Grove Family and Children's Centre is a community-run non-for-profit service comprising of long day care, extended hours kindergarten, 3 and 4 year old sessional kindergarten, maternal health nurse, child psychologist and community facilities located in the Elwood Educational Precinct (co-located with Elwood Primary School and Elwood College). The Centre has a culturally diverse range of staff with more than 5 languages spoken, reflecting our local community's demographic.
Work Days of the Role Monday - Friday
Hours of Work of the Role 40.5 with RDO once a fortnight
Qualifications An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Lead Educator to lead and manage the educational program and practice in our Toddler classroom at Poets Grove Family and Children's Centre in Elwood, Victoria, an exceeding rating service. You are an experienced and passionate Early Childhood Leader for the 2-3 year age group, with a strong understanding of how these little learners learn and the effective habits of a lead educator. You will guide practice that ensures:
  • Trust in the child to be an initiator, an explorer, and a self-learner
  • Children are provided with materials, resources, and environments to support them to flourish in their learning and development
  • Interactions support their sense of curiosity and wonder
  • The use of all of the children's senses and whole bodies to explore, problem solve and learn
  • Educators are constantly present and responsive in care moments to allow the child to become an active participant
  • Educators are calm and gentle in their language and movements
  • Respectful relationships allowing time for the child to build safe and secure relationships
  • Time and space for uninterrupted play
  • Partnerships with families
  • Documentation that captures the many and unique ways children learn and make sense of their world

Are you an ECT currently on a temporary visa and wanting to stay and work in Victoria and take up a pathway to permanent residency?   Early childhood teachers (ECTs) are on the skilled occupation list and are eligible to apply for a skilled migration visa nomination. The visa nomination program applies to the skilled nominated visa (subclass 190) and the skilled work regional visa (subclass 491). The program is cost-free, does not require employer sponsorship and offers a pathway to permanent residency for ECTs. Eligible ECTs living in Victoria are encouraged to submit a registration of interest on the Live in Melbourne website. The successful candidate will: 
  • Be passionate and committed to excellence in early childhood education
  • Have at least 2 years experience leading a room in the in the 2-3 age group
  • Have excellent communication skills and ability to provide written accurate documentation that supports practice and compliance requirements  
  • Have demonstrated capacity to lead and mentor a team
  • Have a proven ability to be a reflective practitioner of performance and practice
  • Be committed to ongoing quality improvement
  • Have the ability to maintain positive relationships with all families, offering support and guidance and encouraging participation in the program
  • Be self-motivated and have the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Have the ability to make sound judgement-based decisions regarding the care, education and management of children
  • Demonstrate the ability to cooperatively work with all levels of staff across the centre
  • Be committed to ongoing professional learning and development
 
Requirements WWCC
Additional Requirements As the ideal candidate for this position, you will have: Diploma Early Childhood Education and Care, or equivalent ACECQA approved qualification (a Bachelor in Early Childhood or equivalent ACECQA approved qualification is an advantage) Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check or VIT Registration Fully Vaccinated Current First Aid (HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting) Current Protecting Children - Mandatory Reporting certificate Current Food Handlers certificate (desirable) Minimum three years experience within Early Childhood Education sector
