01 Jun$5K equipment grant to go to all Vic funded kindergarten programs including long daycare

Posted on 01 Jun 2023

This week, the Victorian Government re-iterated its recent Budget commitment to provide all funded Victorian Kindergarten services, including long daycare providers running kindergarten programs, with $5,000 toward the purchase of educational toys and equipment.

ELAA members have told us infrastructure grants do not include funding for room set-up costs and are not sufficient when starting new services. Room set-up can cost providers as much as $60,000-$80,000 and include costs for equipment, furniture, books and more. Services need to expand and update learning equipment as more children enrol for longer hours in Victorian kindergarten programs.

ELAA is delighted to see that the Victorian Government has listened to our advocacy on behalf of members regarding this funding and responded with this Budget commitment.

Advocating for members to governments is one of our core services and with your support we will continue to be a voice for the sector to governments on key issues including the need for government to co-fund improved educator wages, maintain quality standards, invest more in infrastructure and improve access to Early Childhood Education and Care through reforms such as extending the Child Care Subsidy to more providers and removing the parental activity test. Your continued membership supports this work, please renew your membership for the coming year. The renewal notice was sent via email on Monday 29 May and contains all the information you need to renew.
