18 JanA unique Road Safety Education professional learning opportunity

Posted on 18 Jan 2024

Expressions of Interest are being sought by 19 February 2024 to participate in the Starting Out Safely Road Safety Inquiry Project 2024.

ELAA’s Road Safety Education team is seeking ten children’s services from across Victoria who are interested in undertaking a local Road Safety Inquiry Project. The project aims to deepen an understanding of Road Safety Education in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) and explore meaningful and innovative ways to respond to local safety issues in your community.

Your service participation will assist the ELAA Starting Out Safely team to explore and refine our approach to supporting educators in this important work.

What we’re looking for

Priority will be given to services with a NQF ‘Exceeding’ rating who identify challenges in relation to children’s ongoing safety on local roads, including as pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers. Examples could include a challenge with a tricky carpark, access to the community across a busy street, or a recent incident involving a child or family.

It is expected that services have previously participated in the Starting Out Safely professional development program and have a current Road Safety Education and safe transportation of children policy.

Each service is required to send two participants to the project, where one must be the Educational Leader or a lead practitioner who can influence practice across the service. Applications are required to be endorsed by the Approved Provider or senior management.
