20 JunInforming families of changes to Child Care Subsidy

Posted on 20 Jun 2023

ELAA has advocated for an extension to the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) to make Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) more accessible to all Australians.

From July 2023, the Australian Government is increasing the CCS for most families using ECEC, which includes Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). This also means some families previously not eligible for CCS will now get it. Although ELAA would like to see a further extension to the current CCS, these changes are most welcomed. ELAA is especially pleased to see the additional hours provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Changes from 10 July include:

  • the family income limit to be eligible for CCS is increasing from $356,756 to $530,000 per annum
  • the maximum amount of CCS is increasing from 85% to 90% for families earning $80,000 or less
  • families earning between $80,000 and $530,000 will receive an increased CCS rate
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children can get at least 36 subsidised hours of Early Childhood Education and Care per fortnight, regardless of their family’s activity level.

Below are two letters that have been provided by the Australian Government’s Department of Education. These outline the changes for families and what they need to do in order to access CCS. Please circulate these with your networks.
