11 JulRegional access: share your stories

Posted on 11 Jul 2023

The Parenthood is working on a campaign to share the voices of regional and rural families across Australia struggling to access childcare. Finding a place in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) can be difficult anywhere in Australia, but this is especially true for families living in regional, rural and remote areas where places are very limited.

The Parenthood is calling for stories from parents and families who have struggled to access childcare in regional, rural and remote areas. These stories will contribute to their end-of-year report and to the Parenthood’s advocacy towards federal, state and territory governments to improve access to ECEC.

ELAA is pleased to support the Parenthood in their campaign as it aligns with our advocacy strategy. In ELAA’s submission to the Australian Productivity Commission, we outlined that there are policy changes that can be made to considerably increase access to childcare in regional, rural, and remote parts of Australia.

In a recent media statement ELAA Acting CEO, Megan O’Connell, noted, “By adjusting the Child Care Subsidy to fund extended hours of education and care outside of kindergarten or preschool programs, we could see over 3000 services become available in a relatively short space of time”.
