Learning through play is central to early years pedagogy and practice. But how and what are we teaching and what are the children actually learning? And how are we sharing this learning with the families and the learning community? How can we promote learning through play, particularly in the outdoors when others in our learning community don’t see its value?
This session aims to support educators to advocate for outdoor play and learning and to create richer learning opportunities for the children they work with in the outdoor space. This session will explore how more intentional teaching in the outdoors can support children’s development of maths, science and literacy skills and how to document the learning that is occurring to share with children, families and the wider learning community. Participants are encouraged to bring evidence, questions and ideas from their own services to share and workshop.
