21 JulNew Child Safe Standards from 1 July

Posted on 21 Jul 2022

Children deserve to feel safe, nurtured and protected by the organisations they interact with.  From July 1, 2022, eleven new Child Safe Standards will replace Victoria’s current seven standards.

The new Standards are consistent with the National Child Standards and set out minimum requirements and outline the actions organisations must take to keep children and young people safe.

Key changes to the standards include new requirements:

  • to involve families and communities in organisations’ efforts to keep children and young people safe
  • for a greater focus on safety for Aboriginal children and young people
  • to manage the risk of child abuse in online environments
  • for greater clarity on the governance, systems and processes to keep children and young people safe.

Does your service have fully up-to-date policies to reflect the new Child Safe Standards?

ELAA’s PolicyWorks catalogue has been updated across seven policies to comply with the new Standards. PolicyWorks provides easy to use templates to assist early childhood education and care services to contextualise and update policies to meet legislative, regulatory and funding requirements.
