Early Learning Association Australia (ELAA) was commissioned by the Victorian Department of Education (DET) to create a practical resource that addresses the important questions that early childhood teachers, educators, and leaders need to have answered in order to participate in the Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) program with confidence.

Our CISS Practice Guide, ‘The ABCs of CISS ‘, draws from findings in the Child Information Gap Analysis Survey which was conducted by ELAA and other early childhood grantees including Community Child Care, Australian Childcare Alliance (Vic), Municipal Association of Victoria and Early Childhood Australia (Vic).  It provides step by step information, infographics, and case studies specific to the ECEC sector.  The guide will contribute to:

  • greater awareness of the scheme, and the roles and responsibilities of services
  • ECTs/educators feeling more confident about their role and capability to share information
  • improved quality and timeliness of requests for and responses to requests for appropriate information sharing
  • greater collaboration and coordination with other services; and
  • a shared commitment to child wellbeing, in particular between universal, secondary, and tertiary services.

Services must complete the Vic DET training to ensure they can respond to and make information sharing requests appropriately and effectively. To access training, please register for an account on the Information Sharing and MARAM Online Learning Management System.

Under the information sharing scheme, education professionals are now equal partners with other services in the Victorian service system. This means that CISS enables information sharing between authorised organisations such as education and care services, Child Protection, Youth Justice, Maternal and Child Health, and Victoria Police to promote a child’s wellbeing or safety.
