17 AprWelcome to term 2

Posted on 17 Apr 2024

I hope you have had a safe and restful term break. Much like term 1, this term will be full of exciting opportunities for ELAA and our members. The team at ELAA are gearing up to host our first THRIVE event on the 15 of May. The event will feature a range of speakers, including the Victorian Deputy Secretary of Early Childhood Education Bronwen Fitzgerald, Senior Manager of Research and Evaluation of the Australian Education Research Organisation Dr Zid Mancenido, our members and many more. I am excited to showcase the phenomenal work completed by the Early Childhood Education and Care sector (ECEC) and engage attendees through in-depth discussions on how we can collaborate to build and sustain ECEC in light of the Best Start, Best Life reforms.

This week I will be finishing the second leg of my regional Victorian road trip. I’ll be starting in Ballarat, making my way through to Hamilton and Horsham, finishing in Bendigo. Engaging with our members face-to-face has provided me with invaluable insight into the innerworkings of the sector and the distinct strengths and challenges associated with running a service.

Term 2 will also mark the beginning of the Victorian Early Childhood Teachers and Educators Agreement (VECTEA) bargaining process for ELAA, the Municipal Association of Victoria, the Australian Education Union, United Workers Union, and the Department of Education. With the help of our members, the team at ELAA has organised a log of claims for this process and is ready to enter negotiations as your bargaining representative for the 2024 agreement. Whilst this is a lengthy process, ELAA will provide ongoing updates.

Should you need assistance this term, I encourage you to access ELAA’s extensive resource list HERE or to contact our Member Solutions or Advocacy team. I look forward to seeing you at our THRIVE event in May. To secure your spot, please CLICK HERE.

I wish you all the very best for this term and hope to meet more of you across the coming months.
