05 AugCOVID-19 Stay at home restrictions re-introduced in Victoria

Posted on 05 Aug 2021

The Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, has announced the reintroduction of stay at home restrictions for all Victorians except if an exemption applies e.g. essential worker category etc.

The order takes effect 8pm AEST this evening and is anticipated to last seven days at this stage.

The restrictions state there are only five reasons to leave home: getting the food and the supplies you need, exercising for up to two hours, care or caregiving, authorised work or education if you can’t do it from home, or to get vaccinated at the nearest possible location. Shopping and exercise must be done within 5km of your home or the nearest location.

The Premier’s media release states re Early Childhood Education and Care services and schools … “Childcare and Early Childhood Care will remain open. Schools will close, with primary and secondary school students returning to remote learning – except for vulnerable children, and the children of authorised workers who can learn on site.”

Face masks will remain mandatory indoors (not at home) and outdoors unless an exception applies – this includes all workplaces and secondary schools. At the time of publication of this Latest News update ELAA understands that the standing practice for Early Childhood Education and Care workers to have a choice of whether to wear a mask or not when directly involved in teaching or caring activities has not changed, however, masks are required at all other times while at ECEC services.

ELAA will update members when further information is at hand from the Victorian Department of Education and Care.
