Posted on 17 Feb 2021

Dear members and friends

I hope you, your families and colleagues are all happy, healthy and well. The ‘circuit breaker’ lock down in Victoria has no doubt posed some challenges to Early Childhood Education and Care Providers and their staff over this past week. Following the Victorian Premier’s announcement this morning, most of the ‘Circuit Breaker’ restrictions will cease as of 11.59pm this evening (Wed 17 Feb) with some exceptions e.g. the face mask requirement has been modified. A summary of the changes applicable from 11.59pm tonight plus a link to a full schedule of updated restrictions is available on our ELAA Coronavirus (COVID 19) Frequently Asked Questions Page .

VECTEA

Due to some minor procedural issues regarding some employers not correctly distributing a Notice of Employee Representational Rights, the VECTEA employee access period and subsequent ballot will be delayed for a short period. We anticipate providing further advice by no later than this Friday.

Exciting member resource initiatives

The ELAA team is currently working on two great initiatives to enhance the quality and usability of member management resources. A new resource called Helpful Resources for Policy Development is currently in development which will give services a very practical guide to developing policies to support best practice in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). The resource will provide links to evidence-based research on which to base policies; links to all the mandated ECEC policies, and provide users a with a solid understanding of the policy development cycle. Stay tuned for more on this very handy resource.

The second initiative is the ELAA Member Resources Renewal Project . ELAA, along with an ECEC sector representative Advisory Group, is working to improve our PolicyWorks resource. We have surveyed those providers who use PolicyWorks, and in conjunction with the Advisory Group, identified 10 key policies for review against the following quality criteria: accuracy, usability, design, ease of use, readability and applicability. This will most certainly enhance the value of an already excellent resource and we will keep members up-to-date as the review progresses.

Career opportunities at ELAA

As part of our ELAA 2025 strategic plan, ELAA has reviewed its staffing structure to ensure it delivers optimal service and value to members. As a result, we are now entering into a recruitment process for two senior roles within ELAA – Business Development Manager and Advocacy Manager. The Business Development Manager will be charged with ensuring sustainable growth for ELAA while the Advocacy Manager will strengthen ELAA’s ability to influence all levels of government on matters that matter to the ECEC sector and our members. If you think either of these roles sound like you and would like to know more, please contact ELAA’s Melanie Haydon as follows:
