The Closing the Gap Implementation Plan has just been released. It is includes promising data that Australia is progressing well towards its goal of having 95% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children enrolled in four-year-old preschool by 2025. The plan includes new funding, including for the early years.
As part of the Closing the Gap Initiative, the Commonwealth is providing $9 million funding to replicate the Early Years Education Program in four sites across Victoria and Queensland, including one dedicated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
ELAA member – Kids First – initiated, designed, trialled and funded the model and is a research partner with Melbourne university, awaiting the 3rd year research results. The 2nd year results found large positive impacts on children’s development.
