18 MarPortability of Long Service Leave Update
From 1 January 2020 the community services sector including licensed children’s services under the Children’s Services Act 1996 or approved providers under the Education and Care Services National Law (Victoria) come under the Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme. All approved providers and licensed children’s services are required to register for the scheme by 31 March 2020.
The Portable Long Service Authority has released guidance about community services employees who are eligible under the scheme. The scope has been expanded to include not only employees who have direct contact with children in providing services but also those employees who, at an organisational level, support those who deliver front-line services, such as educational leaders and managers. Guidance note 1: Applying the predominance test for community services will assist registered employers to complete their quarterly returns starting in April 2020.
