20 JanNew research confirms not-for-profit sector commitment to quality improvement

Posted on 20 Jan 2023

New research based on Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) National Quality Standard (NQS) data reveals that not-for-profit long daycare centres who were originally ranked as working towards the NQS are more likely than for profit services to be ranked as meeting or exceeding the NQS upon reassessment.

The research shows that location alone did not impact quality improvement outcomes, although centres in highly disadvantaged communities were less likely to improve than centres in highly advantaged communities. Centres operated by small, stand-alone providers were less likely to improve to an exceeding rating than larger centres. This is likely due to additional staff support structures in larger and multi-site services.

Staff retention is also a key to improvement over time. Centres with stable ownership were also more likely to improve than those transferring ownership.
