Early years services may be eligible for an Australian Government wage subsidy if they take on new trainees.

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy provides eligible employers with 50% of a trainee’s gross wages for 12 months from the date of commencement

Employers may also be able to claim the Completing Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy in relation to trainees that progress to a second or third year of training.

You may be eligible if you engage a new trainee who:

  • commences a Certificate II or higher qualification between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022, including:
    • Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care
    • Certificate IV in School Aged Education and Care
    • Cert III in Commercial Cookery
  • has a training contract formally approved by the State Training Authority.

Additional eligibility criteria apply to employers who seek to commence an existing worker in a traineeship.
